Takis Volcano

Melted cheese with a chilli kick that means business.

We do our best to get the details right, but we're not health or dietary professionals, and we're only human. If you spot something that's wrong or out of date, let us know and we'll fix it as quickly as we can.

What does it taste like?

Volcano leads with a rich, melted-cheese seasoning, the same nacho-adjacent flavour that makes Intense Nacho popular, but with a proper chilli warmth built in behind it rather than left out entirely. The heat builds steadily rather than hitting all at once, landing at Hot (3/5) on Barcel's scale, similar territory to Dragon Sweet Chilli but in a completely different flavour direction. Same tightly rolled corn tube and crunch as the rest of the range, just carrying a cheese-forward seasoning with real heat behind it.

Is Takis Volcano vegan & gluten free?

Not vegan, unfortunately: whey powder and cheese powder are both listed directly in the seasoning, so this one's off the list if you're avoiding dairy. Vegetarians have nothing to worry about, since dairy doesn't involve animal slaughter. The colours are good news either way: paprika extract and annatto bixin are both plant-based, so Volcano doesn't carry the carmine uncertainty that follows Fuego around.

The current UK listing we've checked shows 'Contains Milk' and 'May Contain Soya' on the allergen line, without an explicit wheat or cereals-containing-gluten warning, similar to Dragon Sweet Chilli. We'd still treat this as unsuitable for coeliacs until we can confirm that against a physical pack, since retailer listings don't always show the full allergen picture and other listings we've seen note a wider 'may contain' set. The flavour enhancers disodium inosinate (E631) and disodium guanylate (E627) can be sourced from fish, meat, or fermentation, and Barcel hasn't confirmed which for this flavour. No halal certification here either.

UK availability

Takis Volcano is currently a Co-op exclusive in the UK, confirmed via their online shop at around £2.00 for a 100g bag, with smaller 55g price-marked packs (around £1.25) also in circulation through some independent and convenience retailers. We haven't been able to confirm it at Morrisons, Aldi, Farmfoods, or Iceland yet, so treat those as unconfirmed until it turns up there. Amazon UK is worth checking too if your local Co-op doesn't carry it.

Takis Volcano vs other flavours

This one lands at Hot (3/5), the same official rating as Dragon Sweet Chilli, though the two taste nothing alike: Dragon Sweet Chilli leads with sweetness, Volcano leads with cheese. Of the other cheese-forward flavour in the range, Intense Nacho carries no heat at all, so Volcano is the one to reach for if you want that same nacho-adjacent flavour with some genuine warmth behind it.

Frequently asked questions

How hot is Takis Volcano?
Hot, level 3 of 5 on Barcel's official scale, the same rating as Dragon Sweet Chilli. There's a real chilli kick behind the cheese, more than Intense Nacho or Smokin' BBQ, but well short of Fuego or Blue Heat.
Is Takis Volcano vegan?
No – whey powder and cheese powder are both listed directly in the seasoning. Vegetarians are fine, since it's dairy rather than meat. See our complete UK vegan guide for which flavours are vegan-safe.
Where can I buy Takis Volcano?
Co-op is the confirmed UK stockist, currently around £2.00 for a 100g bag, with smaller price-marked packs also available. We haven't yet confirmed it at Morrisons, Aldi, Farmfoods, or Iceland, so check before making a special trip to any of those instead.
What does Takis Volcano taste like?
Melted cheese seasoning first, then a proper chilli warmth builds in behind it. Closer to a loaded nacho than a straight chilli chip, with more heat than the cheese flavour alone might suggest.
Is Takis Volcano gluten free?
We'd treat it as no. The clearest allergen listing we've found doesn't show an explicit wheat warning, but we haven't confirmed that against the physical pack, and no UK Takis flavour carries a certified gluten-free label regardless. See our Takis gluten-free guide for more.
