Takis Fuego is the original UK flavour, the one most people try first. Is Takis Fuego vegan & gluten free?
Fuego's UK colouring isn't consistent right now. Some bags we've checked list carmine (E120), a red dye made from crushed cochineal insects that rules it out for most vegans and vegetarians. Others use a plant-based paprika-and-beetroot mix, with no carmine in sight. Our best guess is that Barcel's new UK factory, which opened in 2025, is midway through swapping the recipe over, but we can't promise which version you'll pull off the shelf. Check the colours line on the bag if carmine's a dealbreaker for you.
The chip is corn. The bag still carries a 'may contain wheat' warning from shared production lines, which is enough to keep coeliacs away regardless of what's in the mix. No halal certification either, and the 'natural flavours' line on the label doesn't say what's in it. Recipes shift more often than you'd think, so treat this page as a starting point and check whatever bag you're holding.

Fuego is the most widely distributed Takis flavour in the UK. Aldi carries it as a rotating Special Buy, so check their website before you go. Co-op stocks it in medium-to-large branches. Farmfoods usually has it in stock and is normally the cheapest in-store option, around £1.49–£1.59. Iceland sells 180g bags for around £3.00. Morrisons stocks it permanently in the crisps aisle at most stores, usually £1.75–£2.00 in branch, though its website currently lists a 180g bag at £2.50, which may be an online-only price.

Takis Fuego vs other flavours
The obvious comparison is Blue Heat – same heat rating, but strip out the lime and the chilli lands harder and stays longer. For something hotter still, Nitro swaps standard chilli for habanero, changing the character of the burn as well as the intensity. Dragon Sweet Chilli sits at the other end: milder, sweeter, a better entry point if Fuego already feels like plenty. If Fuego's too much for you, try Dragon Sweet Chilli instead. If you're comfortable with it, Blue Heat is worth trying next.
